CLUB TIJUANA RUNS FOR BABIES

Xoloitzcuintles join Miracle Babies Foundation during 5k Run

SAN DIEGO -Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente joined hundreds of runners and walkers Saturday May 11th to be part of the fifth annual Miracle Babies 5K run and walk fundraiser near downtown San Diego.

The event featured a timed race starting at the Embarcadero Marina Park South where several groups and race sponsors showcases stands featuring their respective organizations, including Club Tijuana.

The Xoloitzcuintles joined the effort to help the Miracle Babies Foundation raise money to help families who have critically ill newborns in intensive care unit. The non-profit organization was founded in 2009 and has been helping families throughout San Diego.

“We help families with funds to pay for rent, food, gas and transportation to and from the hospital,” said Miracle babies Executive Director Kevin Robertson before the start of the race. “We help them get over the financial hurdles to get a chance to be with their babies.”

Members of Club Tijuana’s marketing staff participated in the race, which was moved to Mother’s Day weekend for the first time in its existence.  It was the first time the race was a timed event.

“We are celebrating moms today because they are so important,” Robertson said.  “We have more vendors than ever. We are really trying to highlight healthy living whether it is for babies or the entire family.”

Club Tijuana’s official mascot “Xolo Mayor” mingled with race participants before the race and posed for autographs near the start and finish line.

While members of the Xoloitzcuintles front office participated in the Miracle Babies event, coach Antonio Mohamed’s team traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil ahead of its upcoming match. Club Tijuana visits Club Palmeiras of Brazil in the Round of 16 second leg match of the 2013 Copa Bridgestone Libertadores Tuesday May 14 at Estadio Pacaembu 6 p.m. (Pacific).
