WITHOUT BORDERS

Xoloitzcuintles visit Palmeiras in Copa Libertadores Round of 16 Second Leg

SAO PAULO, Brazil –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente, “the team without borders,” trained Monday at Pacaembu Stadium where it prepared for its match Tuesday May 14 against Palmeiras at 6 p.m. Pacific in what is expected to be a tight, competitive match.

Coach Antoni Mohamed said his team will come out looking for the win. The team has shown great motivation after a walk through the Pacaembu field where it will play the second leg of the 2013 Copa Libertadores Round of 16 in Sao Paulo.

The Argentine-born coach guaranteed his team would come out looking to clinch a slot in the next round and that his players will give it all physically. He expects to try and contain the rival and look for ways to reach the quarterfinals of the South American tournament.

Mohamed said that he expects his players to control the ball and play an organized game on the stadium field against the Brazilians.

The game is a highly anticipated affair and was deemed sold out days ago. That will help create a hostile atmosphere for the visiting team. Some Club Tijuana fans have made the trip to support their team.

Alfredo Moreno and Fidel Martinez showed confidence that the team has what it takes to reach the next round and it can continue making history in its six years of existence.

Meanwhile Club Tijuana is the only Mexican team left in the tournament. The first leg was played in Tijuana at Estadio Caliente and finished with a scoreless tie. A win or a tie that does not end 0-0 will put the Xoloitzcuintles in the next round. If the match indeed is a scoreless draw, the game will be decided with a penalty shootout.

The match kickoff is 10 p.m. in Sao Paulo and 6 p.m. in Tijuana.
