SAN DIEGO CLÁSICO SOCCER EXHIBITION TICKETS ON SALE THURSDAY

Club Tijuana Faces Club América July 6 at Petco Park 7:30 p.m.

SAN DIEGO – Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente and Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres announced today that tickets for the 2013 San Diego Clásico at Petco Park will go on sale to the general public Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m.  The exhibition match featuring the Xoloitzcuintles and Club América of Mexico City is scheduled for Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Clásico range from $20 to $50 and can be purchased at the Petco Park box office, online at www.padres.com/xolos, www.padresbeisbol.com, at the Padres Store in Tijuana and at all Ticketmaster locations.

The Xoloitzcuintles won its first league title after beating CD Toluca (4-1 Aggregate score) in the championship final home-and-home series in December. Club Tijuana is the fastest team to win a First Division title since being promoted to the top circuit in May of 2011.

Club Tijuana is currently competing in the 2013 Copa Libertadores, South America’s prestigious tournament seen in 135 countries, reaching the quarterfinals where it will face Atletico Mineiro of Brazil next week at Estadio Caliente in Tijuana.

Club America is one of Mexico’s most popular and oldest clubs. The Xoloitzcuintles and America met in the last San Diego Clasico June 30, 2012 and played to a 1-1 draw. This will be Club Tijuana’s fourth San Diego Clásico, including  a couple matches against Major League Soccer teams: the Los Angeles Galaxy in March 2011 and a February 2012 contest against Chivas USA.

The next Club Tijuana-Club America meeting at Petco Park will be the third soccer event at the baseball stadium. In 2005, the park hosted an international match between Mexico and Sweden and a match between Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara in 2010.
