Rayados de Monterrey 3-0 Club Tijuana: LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente’s Under-17 squad played to a 3-0 loss to visiting Rayados de Monterrey in a Week 6 match of the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura Friday at Estadio Caliente.

Club Tijuana found it difficult to find a rhythm against a Monterrey defense considered one of the best in the National Youth Tournament.

Coach Ignacio Ruvalcava’s squad could not find a rhythm against Monterrey as the Rayados’ defense pressured each man and closed spaces while recovering plenty of balls. The Rayados used the combination of outside midfield duo, Obed Martinez and Ian Arellano, to create open space, making it difficult for the Xoloitzcuintles to defend.

Martinez gave Monterrey a 1-0 lead when he split two defenders down the left side and drove a ball across the face of goal met striker Luis Montoya’s left foot and back of the net in the 25th minute.

Monterrey continued to mount pressure down the wings and found its second goal 10 minutes before halftime.

Arellano helped generate Monterrey’s next goal. He won a corner kick after his cross was deflected off a defender. The ensuing corner kick found the wide open head of Rayado’s captain Juan Portales, who buried the ball past Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper Homar Goethe.

Club Tijuana increased pressure in the second half but it sprayed several shots wide of the goal.

Juan Alvarez closed out the scoring in the 72nd minute taking advantage of open space on Club Tijuana’s outside flanks.

Goethe, the Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper couldn’t reach a ball and punch it out on a cross. Rayados substitute Juan Alvarez then found the ball at his feet just beyond the penalty spot but Goethe was able to recover and make a brilliant outstretched save this time. The rebound ricocheted back to Alvarez’ feet and he calmly put it into the open net.

Club Tijuana will visit Santos Laguna next in a Week 7 match.
