FOR A SLOT IN THE SEMIFINALS

Club Tijuana visits CD Toluca in the quarterfinals; LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura

TOLUCA, Mexico –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente and Club Deportivo Toluca will play for a slot in the LIGA Bancomer MX-2014 Clausura quarterfinals Sunday May 4 at Estadio Nemesio Diez 10 a.m. Pacific.

It will be the second leg of a home-and-home series that is tied 0-0 after neither team scored in the first leg earlier in the week at Estadio Caliente. The scoreless tie favors Toluca as it holds the tiebreaker as it comes in as the No. 2 seed and Club Tijuana the No. 7 seed. But that is the second tiebreaker. The Xoloitzcuintles need to score one goal and force Toluca to win the match in order to advance, as Club Tijuana would win the first tiebreaker, the away goal aggregate.

The Xoloitzcuintles traveled to Central Mexico Saturday May 3 and closed out preparations for the important quarterfinals match. This is Club Tijuana’s third playoff appearance since its promotion to the First Division in 2011.

Argentine striker Dario Benedetto talked about facing Toluca.

“We come with a winning attitude,” Benedetto said. “We know that we need to score goals to advance and we need to come out and be an offensive team with the style of play we know. This is a great opportunity for us to make history and reach the next round.

“We will count on our fans’ support as they also want us to continue on in the next round. The fans have always been with us and we are very focused in playing a great game and advance.”
