INTERNATIONAL QUINTET

Guemez, Lajud, Garcia, Garza and Corona called to respective national teams

TIJUANA –Effort, dedication and worth ethic is paying off for the Xoloitzcuintles as a quintet of Club Tijuana players has been named to national teams for the upcoming FIFA dates.


The Mexican National Team called Javier Guemez, Gibran Lajud and Alberto Garcia to three different categories. Guemez was called to the senior Mexican national team coached by Miguel Herrera. Lajud was named to “El Tri’s” Under-21 squad by coach Sergio Almaguer while Garcia was called to the Under-20 team coached by Raul Gutierrez.


Joe Corona and Greg Garza were named to Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster for the United States for its friendly match against Ecuador.


 


XOLOITZCUINTLE “TRICOLOR.”


Guemez call to the national team is a special meaning. It is the first time the Club Tijuana midfielder is summoned to Mexico’s roster. Herrera took notice of Guemez’ hard work and work ethic. Guemez will be part of the team that will face Honduras and Panama on Oct. 9 and 12 respectively.


Herrera will have Guemez at his disposal in the midfield. He will have a player that is tactically sound, plays with precision and has a great upside as he improves his game day to day.


 


CORONA AND GARZA CALLED BY THE UNITED STATES


Corona and Garza will be part of Klinsmann’s roster for the friendly against Ecuador Friday Oct. 10 in Connecticut.


This will be Garza’s second stint with the Americans after making his debut in a 1-0 win against the Czech Republic in a friendly last month. Garza has competed for the United States at every national team level, from the Under-14 to the senior team.


Corona enters his second World Cup cycle after being part of the final 30 players to be called for the 2014 FIFA World Cup preliminary roster. Corona has been part 14 international matches this year.


 


XOLOITZCUINTLES ON YOUTH NATIONAL TEAMS


Gibran Lajud


Lajud is one of the 2014 Apertura offseason acquisitions. He was called up by Mexico’s Under-21 coach Raul “Potro” Gutierrez to be part of the 2014 XXII Central American Games in Veracruz. The Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper will be in Mexico’s camp for matches in Veracruz Oct. 9 and 11.


Lajud is a tactically sound goalkeeper who has worn the Mexican national team jersey through different parts of his Fuerzas Basicas career. He has shown considerable skill with the ball at his feet and has shown an ability to mark his presence on the field during a game. 


 


Jose Alberto Garcia


Garcia is a product of Club Tijuana’s youth system. Known as “Beto” by his coaches and teammates, Garcia joined Mexico’s Under-20 squad this past weekend after playing in a Week 5 match against Monterrey in which he played eight minutes.


Garcia has accomplished several milestones with Club Tijuana’s Fuerzas Basicas. He made his professional debut Jan. 24, 2014 in a match against Monarcas, a Week 4 match of the 2014 Clausura.


Mexico’s Under-20 team is in Chile to play in a four-nation tournament that includes, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia and Mexico. Competition begins Wednesday with Mexico taking on Uruguay.
