“PROUD TO REPRESENT MEXICO,” –GUEMEZ

Xoloitzcuintles midfielder makes debut with Mexico vs. Honduras

TIJUANA –Javier Guemez will always remember the night of Oct. 9, 2014. That is when the Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente midfielder made his debut with the Mexican National Team when El tri faced Honduras in a friendly match.  Guemez came on to the field in the 67th minute as a substitute.

“I am very motivated by this my first call up and to have been able to play,” Guemez said after playing his first minutes with El Tri via cell phone from the team hotel. “It’s a beautiful thing as teammates try to incorporate into the squad as soon as possible. It is a very united group and this is a great experience.”

Guemez represented his team well and took advantage to show his skills at the national level.

“It gives you great satisfaction and emotion to be here,” Guemez said. “I believe that there is no greater honor than to represent your country.”

Beating Honduras 2-0 was an important memory for Guemez as it will be a rival that Mexico will face in the Gold Cup and Copa America.

“Honduras beat us the last time we played them,” Guemez said. “We had a chip on our shoulders so it was good that we played our best against them.”

Guemez had a message for Club Tijuana fans for their support.

“I want to thank them for all the support that they have given me,” Guemez said. “I want to tell them that I am convinced that we will continue to be on the right track.”

Guemez will continue with EL Tri and on Miguel Herrera’s squad for its friendly match against Panama Sunday.
