“WE NEED 15 OF 15,” –HENRY MARTIN

Club Tijuana striker has played 163 minutes in 7 games

TIJUANA –Henry Martin reached his dream to play in the Mexican First Division a few weeks ago. The Xoloitzcuintles forward continues to get playing time with the first team and has become a key component of coach Daniel Guzman’s team.

Martin has played in seven matches in the 2014 Apertura and is looking to add more playing time as the team heads into its last five games of the regular season. He sees each one of those games as a championship final.

“There are 15 possible points left to gain to get into the playoffs,” Martin said. “We need to win 15 of the 15 and not leave a point behind. We can’t give away a point.”

Martin could be an option for Guzman’s list of attackers for Friday night’s Week 13 match against Queretaro at Estadio Caliente. The 22-year-old forward knows it will be a tough match as both teams are fighting to stay alive for a playoff spot. He expects an enthusiastic Queretaro team looking to earn the three points.

The rest of the team continues to prepare for Queretaro, going through drills and tactical assignments throughout the week.

“We stay to work on centered passes, mid-range shots that are very important in this game,” Martin said. “These determine if you will take the three points or not.”

Martin is from Merida, Mexico and hasn’t been in Tijuana long but he has adapted well and cemented himself as part of the Xoloitzcuintles attack. He is notable among fans.

“We want them to keep supporting and trusting in us,” Martin said of the fans. “We will do everything possible to get the three points.”
