"WE ARE A VERY BALANCED TEAM. -DANIEL GUZMAN
Club Tijuana coach credits results to hard work
TIJUANA –Club Tijuana coach Daniel Guzman didn’t waste time praising his team and speaking about what has helped his team spark a fast start to the LIGA MX 2015 Clausura tournament.
The Xoloitzcuintles coach talked about the team’s efficiency in this five-game win streak that includes three-straight wins in the LIGA MX and two in the Copa MX tournaments.
Here is a transcript with parts of Guzman’s post match news conference after a 4-2 win against visiting Monarcas Morelia in a Wee 4 match of the LIGA MX.
On the win and recent results:
“This is the fruit of hard work. The truth is that the preseason that we did in Mazatlan was very strong, very demanding, they (the players) took to it well, especially Dayro (Moreno) who had not had a serious and strong preseason. And all of this is the result of the hard work. We are reaping what we sowed. Sometimes, putting together a team of this magnitude takes time, maybe one or two seasons but they have a lot of communication outside of the field. You’ll see them talking about football and that enriches rapidly, that adaptation period. And that is just the reality, when you win you are secure about them. They trust you more about the work and effort that they are doing. We just need to keep all of this up, at this moment we are winning, we will keep emphasizing the hard work, the unity, the humbleness, and I think its time to enjoy this win because, honestly, it was a complicated one.”
On being an attacking team who was scored on twice:
“There is always something in which we can improve. They are able to create a chance on a set piece in the early minutes, we gave up two goals when it seemed like we had the game completely in our control, but it is all part of the fact that the team is offensive-minded, we look to attack and spaces are left behind and they took advantage of the two mistakes that we committed because we were pushed forward.”
On the player’s confidence and unity:
“Yes, they are loosened up, they are prepared physically. That is why you see that confidence in them and that is also the result that we have picked up surprisingly good results along the way like beating America here, beating Tigres on the road, bringing those results together by picking up another solid win. Day by day they are more confident. Now we have to work on the mental part, we haven’t won anything yet, that we have to keep working with the same humility, because like I said: the objective is very clear in our minds which is to qualify to the playoffs, and to qualify you have to pick up points and that is why we are all aware of what we need to do each day. I see them very secure, very confident that the hard work has produced this level of football. It isn’t easy what they have just done. But we are also aware that what we just lived right now is now in the past. They are all about the present, they are all about getting back to work tomorrow morning to prepare the upcoming games. To give these types of performances you have to forget about the past and live the day to day.”
On if his team can continue to reproduce similar results in the future:
“Yes, we were confident that we could reproduce what we had done in the previous games. We had that great opportunity to give our fans another win and the solid way in which they did it I think it is all the product of the hard work that the boys have been doing.”
On Da Silva, Hauche and Moreno on the attack:
“First of all the great balance of the team. If you want to attack you have to defend well. We have three guys who have mixed well in the offense and we also have provider of balls like Juan Arango, like Guemez and what they have done well is that they have taken their chances even though they have missed a lot as well, but we have a great balance if you take a look you’ll always see Ricardo De Jesus (Da Silva), Dayro Moreno, and Gabriel Hauche and behind we have six or seven guys defending the possible attack from the rival.”
On Hauche’s success with Club Tijuana and his rapid adaptation to his system:
“First when he became champion in Argentina, one would look for another type of team but when the project Xolos was explained to him he quickly left behind the championship with Racing and was at my full disposal. I put him in a position, which he has never played before. I talked with him and explained to him the benefits of having him there and today we pays me back with two goals, a great attitude, very hard to contain for any defender and that will bring him more confidence because it is not easy to come in from another league, another country and quickly adapt and produce results. I think we have lighten his load so that he can produce all of his football, he has a lot of it and will continue to give Tijuana more satisfactions.”
