Xoloitzcuintles coach looks to play well, win and reach the 2015 Clausura playoffs

TIJUANA –Club Tijuana coach Daniel Guzman, his players and the team administration have one common goal: the post season in the 2015 Clausura.

Guzman believes his team has enough fire power and the experience to be a contender and have a spot in the eight-team playoffs. The team added some pieces during the offseason that help Guzman feel more confident about being a top team this season.

“Everyone on this team from the players that just got here, the ones that have been here and the young players who will see more action and have a role, they all have a responsibility,” Guzman said. “They all have a challenge. We need to take risks. This team is built to qualify for the playoffs and then compete for a title.”

Guzman said the team’s goals would become clearer as each match is completed in the 2015 Clausura.

“Puebla is our first hurdle,” Guzman said about the season opener next Jan. 10. “That is our great chance, our opportunity to start building a great challenge to reach our dreams because right after that we have (Club) America. Then it’s Tigres, Morelia. We will formulate a winning strategy as we gain points (in the standings) every week, play well and win.”

The Club Tijuana coach said he likes the team that has been put together since the start of the preseason. He hopes it can reach the goals it has set moving forward and responds well to whatever comes along on the way.

“We looked for speed,” Guzman said. “We have fast people. Things will be done much faster with the ball and have possession, attack vertically but also defend well when we don’t have the ball.”

Guzman had a message for the fans as the start of the regular season approaches. He said that from the outside the team might not look as strong as it really is from the inside.

“We want them to be strong,” Guzman said about the fans. “We need their support and cheering, their help is always motivating and it makes this team stronger. There will be more than 11 on the field each game.”
