
CLUB TIJUANA UNDER-20 TEAM PITCHES SHUTOUT
The Xoloitzcuintles beat Club America 3-0 in Week 2 match
TIJUANA -Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente’s Under-20 team defeated a shorthanded Club America 3-0 after the visiting team finished a man short since the first half.
Forward Daniel Marquez scored in the 24th minute off midfielder Alejandro Guido’s amazing assist. Edgar Villegas was taken down in the penalty box by Club America’s Jonathan Sanchez eight minutes later and Club Tijuana was given a penalty kick. Sanchez was sent off with a red card.
Oliver Ortiz converted the penalty kick, sending a strong shot to the left side of the net to give coach Diego Torres’ team a 2-0 lead.
Club America with a man down had to defend its area more often and the Xoloitzcuintles took advantage, ultimately taking control of the ball creating more opportunities throughout the rest of the first half.
Club America tried to bounce back early in the second half but was unsuccessful. The Xoloitzcuintles instead scored again. Villegas sent a ball at goal Club America goalkeeper Miguel Martinez deflected his shot. But Villegas was there to put back the rebounded shot as the ball ended up in his feet.
Club Tijuana continued to keep possession and had several opportunities to score a fourth goal but the Martinez made several saves late in the match to keep the Xoloitzcuintles from scoring again.
The Xoloitzcuintles Under-20 squad will now travel to face Pachuca FC next weekend for a Week 3 matchup.
