XOLOITZCUINTLES COMPETING IN 2014 COPA CHIVAS

Club Tijuana beat Liverpool of England 3-0 in third match of tournament

GUADALAJARA, Mexico –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente is competing in the 2014 Copa Chivas international youth tournament that is being played in January and February.


The Xoloitzcuintles youth team beat Liverpool of England 3-0 Thursday Jan. 30 to reach six points after three games.  The team led by Colombian-born coach Franky Oviedo started the tournament with a 4-1 loss against la Universidad Catolica de Chile and bounced back with a 1-0 win against Chivas USA in the second game. The Xoloitzcuintles sit in second place in the Group B standings.  


Fernando David Arce, Juan Rodriguez and German Rodriguez scored for Club Tijuana against Liverpool . They join the list of Xoloitzcuintles goal scorers this tournament with Aldair Espinosa who scored against Chivas USA and Rene Flores who scored against Universidad Catolica.


Club Tijuana will continue in this competition Saturday Feb. 1 when they face the Colombian national team (7: 30 a.m. Pacific) in Guadalajara.


The top two finishers in each group advance to the next round. Group A includes Club Atlas de Guadalajara, Rayados de Monterrey, Victoria of Portugal, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, Dallas FC and Yokohama.


Group B includes the Colombian national team, Monarcas Morelia, Liverpool FC, Universidad Catolica de Chile and Chivas USA.


“We are on the right path,” Ovideo said. “We have played good games in which you can see the development of our young players against big international institutions. It is important for us to participate in a great traditional tournament. This is a special tournament and we are going to focus on competing until the final moment. We have taken a good step and we have to finish the group stage strong so that we can clinch one of the slots in the next round.”
